REID Lifting sets new standard in rope access market

Innovation is at the heart of what we do. And we believe that we have laid down a significant marker in the rope access safety market with the launch of the UK’s first third party, witness tested BS8610: 2017 and EN795: 2012 certified davit solution.

The TDAVIT for rope access has not only been accredited to all the best practice standards (including IRATA), it is, to the very best of our knowledge, the only one to have done so as a single proprietary system all the way from anchor point to fixings.

Simon Luke, Managing Director, explained the significance:

“BS8610 might not be mandatory but it is certainly widely accepted as best practice in the rope access market and we’re seeing an increasing number of requests for compliance, which is obviously good news. In response to this, we are also hearing that a number of other manufacturers are claiming compliance, but without evidence of third party witness testing and that is the important distinction.

“If we are going to persuade architects and building facilities managers to switch to davits from conventional BMUs and maximise the savings they offer, then they have to have absolute confidence in the safety and security of the solution. As far as REID is concerned, anything less than third party, witness tested approval of the whole system is just not good enough.”

The certified TDAVIT for rope access is a fully integrated davit and socket combination. Based on our existing market leading TDAVIT solution, already used worldwide for goods, personnel lifting and fall protection applications, the davit itself is a lightweight, two-piece column and beam design. That makes it easy to transport and move around on rooftops and two people can assemble it in minutes, without tools and with minimal manual handling. The column weighs just 28kg and there are 1m, 1.2m and 1.6m radius beam options available weighing from 12kg to 16kg.

The TDAVIT for rope access is designed to be placed in either our top mount or side mount steel sockets and installed on concrete or fixed directly to steelwork to provide a complete BS8610 certified anchor system. Our 1.2m davit has also been specifically designed to be used with our PORTABASE Counterbalance to provide a truly portable rope access solution.

Watch and learn the unique features and benefits of our new TDAVIT below.

The TDAVIT for rope access is designed with a 65mm high tensile aluminium kingpin to meet the stringent requirements of BS8610 and incorporates two patented bearings which mean it can be rotated 360° even when it is fully loaded to optimise safety when setting up and attaching users. The davit is suitable for one user for rope access and one user attached to the elevated anchor point for fall protection during rescue or transitioning. Our 1m davit is also suitable for two users when being used for rescue accompanied descent.

To provide the ultimate reassurance on safety and to minimise risk, we have designed the system with no welded elements, which eliminates the potential for weld fatigue and catastrophic failure. It also comes with an integral safety tether for securing the davit to the socket, ensuring that it can never be removed without two deliberate and consecutive actions, another requirement of BS8610.

The TDAVIT for rope access is available in a variety of configurations depending on the operator and rescue requirements for each building. With radius adjustment from 9.25m to 1.6m and options for remote rescue or rescue accompanied descent, the range provides design flexibility for a variety of facade access scenarios.

Expertly engineered from our trademark marine grade aluminium alloy, anodised and powder coated for maximum corrosion resistance even when sited in the most exposed locations. Fixings are zinc plated as standard, but a full stainless steel fixing upgrade is available if required.

To support designers and installers, we offer a full pack of information including a technical sales leaflet, technical data sheets, detailed assembly and operation guide and designers guide for structural requirements.
