REID’s PORTAGANTRY RAPIDE replaced an obsolete monorail system to enable maintenance engineers at the Nantes waste-water treatment to access the pump, even though it was up a small stairway and behind a closed door.

The background

The pump in the municipal waste-water treatment plant in Nantes was originally accessed via a small, functioning monorail trolley system. When this rusted and became unusable, the owners needed to find another way of lifting and maintaining the pump which would lower the cost yet still be safe and effective.

The challenge

The owners of the waste-water treatment plant wanted to find a way to access the pump, but the only area where suitable lifting equipment could be sited was in a confined space, up a small stairway and behind a closed door. They needed a solution which was light and portable; and which could ideally be used in other locations and for other applications such as fall arrest as well.

The SOLUTION

REID Lifting France recommended our ultra-versatile PORTAGANTRY RAPIDE, which can be used for both goods and personnel lifting. Weighing as little as 33kg and foldable to just 420mm x 2080mm, it had all the portability they needed and with the added bonus of fall arrest built-in.

The REID team demonstrated how the system could easily be carried up the stairs and through the doorway at the plant and then assembled by two people in less than 10 minutes above the access point. From there, the engineers could lift and lower the pump as required using the roller mounted lifting eye.

The PORTAGANTRY RAPIDE supplied has a capacity of 500kg for goods and 250kg for personnel lifting and comes with an integrated wheel design which makes it easy to manoeuvre when folded. It is manufactured from durable, yet lightweight anodised aluminium which can withstand even the toughest working environments.

The feedback

The PORTAGANTRY RAPIDE is proving so useful that the water treatment company is using the unit for goods lifting and fall arrest at multiple sites and locations - generating an even faster payback on its investment.
